Lewis Men's Soccer Records Shutout Against Northern Michigan, 1-0, Thursday

MARQUETTE, Mich.. – The Lewis University men's soccer team defeated Northern Michigan in a non-conference match up, 1-0, against Thursday (Sept. 1).

FIRST HALF: Lewis 1, Northern Michigan 0
  • Joshua Kieldyk (Schleswig-Holstein, Germany/Bundesliga Junior-A Eimsbutteler) tried to put Lewis on the board in the 7th minute but his shot was blocked. 
  • Northern Michigan went on the attack in the 19th minute but Sebastian Doppelhofer (Liebmannweg, Austria/) was there for the save. 
  • The Wildcats wasted no time and tried another shot attempt in the 20th minute but Doppelhofer saved it again. 
  • A few minutes later, NMU went on the attack again but their shot was saved in the 23rd minute.
  • Lewis went on the attack after the save by Doppelhofer and ran the whole field and Justin Darlage (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) found an opening and found the back of the net to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead.
SECOND HALF: Lewis 0, Northern Michigan 0
  • Lewis look to double their lead early in the second half but Jesus Meza (Glendale Heights, Ill.)'s shot was blocked.  
  • The Flyers tried again a minute later but Arturs Gorodnickis (Riga, Latvia/Riga) shot went high.  
  • NMU looked to tie the contest at 1-all in the 53rd but Lewis was able to save it once again. 
  • Joram Bogers (Noord-Brabant, Netherlands/Mill-Hill College) tried to double the lead in the 64th minute but it was the Wildcats, who saved it this time.
  • The Wildcats tried to have some late match heroics in the 87th minute but Doppelhofer save their shot attempt. 
FINAL SCORE: Lewis 1, Northern Michigan 0
