WHITEWATER, Wis. – The Lewis University men's tennis team competed in the Warhawk Fall Invitational Friday and Saturday.
Boris Redkow (Hamburg, Germany/Saint Mary College) of Lewis came away with the No. 1 singles title, while
Tatenda Mutetwa (Harare, Zimbabwe) and Redkow claimed the No. 1 doubles title and
Omer Gorgun (Kocaeli, Turkey/South Carolina State) and
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland/Tennessee State) claimed the No. 2 doubles title.
SINGLES RESULTS
No. 1 draw: Redkow defeated John Zakowski (Whitewater) 6-7 (6), 6-4, 10-7; beat Hugo Munoz (Cardinal Stritich) 7-6 (2), 6-3 to place first.
No. 1 draw: Gorgun defeated Cole Lindwall (UWW) 6-2, 6-3; lost to Munoz 6-7 (3), 1-6; beat Zakowski in walk over to place third.
No. 2 draw: Mutetwa defeated Sebastian Bahamondes (St. Francis) 7-6 (4), 6-2; lost to Andres Mauricio Saavedra 3-6, 7-5, 6-10; beat
Zac Matuszak (Birmingham, Alabama/Idaho State) (Lewis) in walk over to place third.
No. 2 draw: Matuszak lost to Luke VanDonsiear (UWW) 4-6, 1-6; lost to Mutewa in walk over to place fourth.
No. 3 draw: Pedja Trifunovic (Aleksandrovac, Serbia/) beat Payton Adkisson (UWW) 6-4, 6-4; beat Wade Hermanus (CSU) 6-3, 6-4; lost to Tyler Nelson (UWW) 4-6, 2-6 to place second.
No. 4 draw: Wierzbicki lost to Adrian Gomez (CSU) 3-6, 3-6; beat Jacob Tilton (Lake Forest) in a walk over; lost to Josh Baldwin (UWW) 0-6, 2-6 to place sixth.
No. 6 draw: Grant Miller (Charlestown, Ind./Silver Creek) beat Zachary Wallace (USF) 6-0, 6-1; defeated Parker Sprague (UWW) 6-4, 6-2; lost to Chase Lindwall (UWW) 6-3, 3-6, 6-10 to place second.
DOUBLES RESULTS
No. 1 draw: Mutetwa/Redkow defeated Danall Banov/Munoz 6-3; defeated Zakowski/VanDonsiear 7-6 (3) to place first.
No. 1 draw: Matuszak/Trifunovic lost to Zakowski/VanDonsiear 2-6; defeated Nelson/Lindwall 7-5 to place fifth.
No. 2 draw: Gorgun/Wierzbicki defeated Kyle Lassen/Ian Vilardi (LF) 6-3; beat Giovanni Vitall/Hermanus 7-6 (5); defeated Mauricio Saavedra/Gomez 6-3 to place first.
The Flyers are back in action Sept. 17 at the ITA Tournament in Indianapolis, Ind.
