ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The No. 15 Lewis University women's volleyball team started out Great Lakes Valley Conference play in a huge way as the Flyers defeated Maryville in three straight sets at the Neil Carey Arena Friday (Sept. 16).

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: No. 15 Lewis 25, Maryville 12
- Lewis went up 7-3 early in the first set after a kill by Schlechte.
- Maryville answered with the next point then the Flyers rallied back.
- Juliana Van Loo (Burbank, Calif./John Burroughs) recorded a huge kill which gave the Flyers a 20-9 lead in the opening set.
- The Flyers were able to capture the first set 25-12 after another kill by Schlechte.
SECOND SET: No. 15 Lewis 25, Maryville 9
- Maryville scored the first two points of the second set but the Flyers stormed back and recorded four straight to go up 4-2.
- The Saints made it down to 13-7 in favor of Lewis but that was the closest they would get.
- Lewis rallied for seven points in a row to go up 20-7 after a kill by Taki.
- The Flyers scored the next five out of seven points to win the second set 25-9.
THIRD SET: No. 15 Lewis 25, Maryville 15
- Lewis scored the first two points of the third set after a block by Ray.
- Schlechte would later make it 9-5 in favor of the Flyers in the third set.
- Maryville recorded the next point to make it 9-6 but that was the closest the Saints got the rest of the way.
- The Flyers went up 19-10 after three straight kills by Ray, Taki and Schlechte.
- Lewis won the third set by winning back-to-back points after a kill by Ray and a block by Ray and Hannah Alvey (Mapleton, Ill.).
Final Score: No. 15 Lewis 3, Maryville 0
