ALLENDALE, Mich. -- The Lewis University women's tennis team competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Tournament hosted by Grand Valley State University from Saturday (Sept. 24)-Monday (Sept. 26).
Grace Sueflohn (Delafield, Wis./KM Global Charter School) and
Sage Hills (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) advanced to the Round of 16 in Draw B Doubles then fell to Illinois-Springfield's Piper Schrepferman and Eva Rubio.
In Draw B Doubles,
Jovana Vujanic (Elk Grove Village, Ill./Elk Grove) and Anabel Aguilar made it to the quarterfinals after defeating Saginaw Valley State's Sara Neves and Adriana Barrio in the tie-breaker 9-8 (7-4) then advanced against Grand Valley State's Anna Soteras and Olivia Huang.
Anastasiya Salenko (Kyiv, Ukraine/Louisiana Tech) and
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) in Draw A were able to advance to the semifinals before falling to Grand Valley State's Vasileia Griva and Taylor Barnett in the tie-breaker 9-8 (8-6). In route to the semifinals to duo defeated Indianapolis's Maissane Aik and Lea Cakarevic, 8-6.
In the round of 16, Salenko and Smith defeated Maryville's Billur Gonlusen and Carolina Velazquez, 8-4. During the quarterfinals, the Lewis duo defeated Wayne State's Marta Komar and Anais Ruyssen, 8-6.
In Draw B singles, Aguilar suffered a defeat in the round of 32 to Hillsdsle College's Melanie Zampardo, 6-1, 6-0.
Vujanic lost to Grand Valley State's Anna Soteras, 6-2, 6-0, in the round of 32.
Hills dropped her match in the round of 64 to Findlay's Anamarija Kovacevic, 6-2, 6-2.
Sueflohn lost her match to Ferris State's Ana Sofia Hernandez Ferrer, 7-5, 6-3 during the round of 64.
In Draw A singles, Salenko was unable to come away with the victory in her matchup against Southwest Baptist's Lola Cincunegui, 6-0, 6-0.
Smith made it all the way to the Round of 16 before losing to Malak Arafat 2-6, 6-4, 10-8. In route to the round of 16, Smith defeated Davenport's Skye Vandeleur, 6-1, 6-2. During the Round of 32 matchup. Smith defeated Lake Superior State's Madeleine Whip, 6-3, 6-4.
