Lewis Women’s Basketball Notches Its 10th Win Of The Season After Beating Missouri S&T On Saturday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill.  – The Lewis University women's basketball team earned their 10th win of the season after beating Missouri S&T 72-59 on Saturday, January 14. The Flyers were led by Kathryn Schmidt (Hampshire, Ill./Burlington Central) as she recorded her second 20-point game of the year, to go along with her eight rebounds and two assists in the win.

SUMMARY
To start the game, both teams traded baskets as they found themselves tied at eight with three minutes left in the opening quarter. As Missouri S&T was able to come out of the first quarter with a two point lead, Lewis' Schmidt was leading the charge for the Flyers early, ending the opening quarter scoring nine of the team's 13 points, while adding two rebounds.
 
Schmidt stayed on pace in the second quarter as she nailed a 3-pointer from the right wing to give Lewis a 16-15 lead.
 
Lewis used that early momentum to go on a 10-2 run for a 32-17 lead and force the Miners to call a timeout. The Flyers lead would only expand as they shot 10-of-20 from the field in the second quarter, compared to Missouri S&T who shot 2-of-12 from the field. Lewis outscored Missouri S&T 26-6 in the second and had an 18-point lead headed into halftime.
 
Throughout the third quarter, both teams scored 10 points in six minutes of action. Badali later scored five unanswered points that helped Lewis extend its lead to 20.
 
Lewis cruised to the win after a fourth quarter in which they gained their largest lead of 25.
 
The Flyers shot 42.4 percent (28-of-66) from the field and 33.3 percent (9-for-27) from 3-point range. Lewis had 18 assists as a team compared to its five turnovers.

The Flyers have now won 8 of its last 10 games and are in third place in the GLVC.
