ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University women's basketball team came up just short in a double overtime loss in a Great Lakes Valley Conference matchup to University of Missouri-St. Louis on Monday, Jan. 16 at Neil Carey Arena.

SUMMARY
To start the game, the Flyers committed two turnovers on its first two offensive possessions and were down 5-0 just two minutes into the game. Lewis quickly turned that around as Badali and Hart both made back-to-back transition layups in less than 30 seconds.
Schmidt later made a layup at the 5:09 mark to give Lewis its first lead of the game. The Flyers were able to withstand that lead and take a three-point lead into the second quarter.
The Flyers were able to extend their lead in the second quarter to nine after Courier and Gugliuzza split a pair of free throws, followed by a Hilber 3-pointer from the right wing.
Leading by eight at halftime, Lewis was able to withstand a third quarter in which the Tritons shot 58.3 percent from the field.
Entering the fourth quarter trailing by nine, UMSL clawed its way back into the game. The Tritons were able to cut the lead to five after Olivia Mezan nailed a 3-pointer with 5:52 remaining in regulation.
Throughout the next four minutes, Lewis committed four turnovers, giving USML opportunities to tie the game. The Tritons would ultimately put together a 10-0 run to take its first lead of the game since the first quarter.
In the closing moments of the fourth quarter, Gugliuzza made a layup with 0.3 seconds left to force overtime.
To start the first overtime, UMSL began on a 8-0 run before Hilber made a layup with 2:13 remaining. Lewis was able to put together a 5-0 run afterwards, thanks to Badali's 3-pointer and Schmidt's layup, to bring them within one with one minute left.
Trailing by three with 40 seconds left, the Flyers tied the contest at 76-all after Schmidt hit a 3-pointer from the right corner and forced double overtime.
Throughout the second overtime, both teams scored four points apiece in the first four and a half minutes, finding themselves tied at 80 with 36.8 seconds left.
After Morgan Ramthun and Mezan made a pair of free throws for UMSL, Lewis was down three with four seconds left. The Flyers missed a game tying three as time expired.
