SUMMARY
To start the game, Lewis made its two of its first three shots while Missouri S&T missed its first three shots and committed two turnovers.
Throughout the next three minutes of play, the Miners managed to put together an 15-4 run to take a 15-8 lead. After Missouri S&T's Lovell Williams made a pull up jump shot, the Miners had a double digit lead half way through the first half.
The Flyers would end up committing 12 turnovers in the first half, which was one of the contributing factors as to why they were down 16 at halftime. Missouri S&T had 13 more second chance points than Lewis in the first half, as well as outscoring the Flyers 13-2 in bench points in the first half.
While both teams shot over 53 percent from the field in the first half, Lewis missed all six of its 3-point attempts and only shot two free throws.
At the beginning of the second half, Lewis went 3-of-3 to start as
Frericks and
Atakan Sahinkaya made point-blank layups while Cem
Kirciman made a pull-up jump shot in transition. Devon
Vanderheydt later sunk one of his three 3-pointers to help the Flyers cut the lead to single digits for the first time since the 7:03 mark in the first half.
Missouri S&T was able to respond and expand the lead back to 14, but Lewis'
Vanderheydt and
Utku Kurtulus made back-to-back 3-pointers to cut the lead to eight.
Unfortunately for the Flyers, that would be the closest they came in the second as the Miners went on a 14 to 3 run over the next seven minutes of action. Even though Lewis outscored Missouri S&T in the second half, it wasn't enough to erase the 16 point deficit they withstood in the first half.
