ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Lewis University women's basketball team had a slow start to begin the second half as Maryville outscored the Flyers, 26-8, in the third quarter which made the Saints victorious, 78-68, Saturday.

SUMMARY
Maryville started out the game with a 8-2 lead before
Stephanie Hart (Geneva, Ill./Geneva) made back-to-back layups to end the run. Hilber knocked down a three-pointer to give Lewis their first lead of the game.
Moments later, Lewis jumped out to a 17-10 lead after Gugliuzza and Badali made back-to-back threes. Maryville responded to end the first quarter on a 7-3 run to make it a three-point game in favor of Lewis (20-17).
Maryville started the second quarter by tying the game up at 20 a piece before
Lindsay Harrison (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) made back-to-back baskets to make it 24-20 Lewis. The Saints would quickly grab a 27-26 lead with under five minutes to play before Schmidt knocked down a three-pointer to regain the lead for the Flyers.
Both teams would trade baskets for the next four minutes with Lewis leading by the slimmest of margins at 38-37 during the break.
Lewis started the second half with a layup by Schmidt but after that it would shift all to Maryville after the Saints went on a 24-2 run the rest seven minutes to go up 61-42 with two minutes left. The Flyers tried to crawl back in the contest after layups from
Shawnton Brown (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) and Courier made it 63-46 at the end of the third period.
Both teams each traded a pair of baskets before Lewis was able to cut down the deficit down to 65-55 with five minutes left but it was already too late. The Flyers cut it down to as much as six (74-68) but the Saints scored the last four points as time expired with Maryville winning 78-68.
