Lewis Men's Volleyball Sweeps St. Francis-Brooklyn Friday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The No. 15 Lewis University men's volleyball team got back on track with a sweep in straight sets against St. Francis College-Brooklyn, 3-0, at Neil Carey Arena, Friday (Jan. 27).

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: Lewis 25, St. Francis-Brooklyn 18

  • Both teams each scored five points each to start the opening set.
  • Lewis got the next two points after back-to-back kills by Antonio Rodriguez-Elias (Naranjito, Puerto Rico/Colegio Sagrada Familia) and Cole Brillhart (York, Pa./Northeastern).
  • The Flyers held the lead for the rest of the opening set.
  • Lewis extended their lead out to 18-11 after kills from Brillhart, Max Roquet (Johnston, Iowa/Johnston) and Christian Prayer (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North).
  • The Flyers won the first set after Elias-Rodriguez picked up the kill.

SECOND SET: Lewis 25, St. Francis-Brooklyn 15

  • Lewis jumped out to an early 3-0 lead then eventually extended their lead out to 10-2 in the second set.
  • St. Francis-Brooklyn tried to get back in the set and made it 17-12 in favor of Lewis.
  • The Flyers were able to get back on track and recorded back-to-back kills from Rodriguez-Elias and Prayer.
  • Lewis won the second set 25-15 and went up 2-0 in the match.

THIRD SET: Lewis 25, St. Francis-Brooklyn 19

  • Lewis went up 6-2 early in the third set after a service ace by Roquet.
  • The Terriers mounted a comeback to cut it down to one (7-6) after making a run in the third set.
  • Sack got the Flyers back the momentum after recording a service ace to make it 12-8.
  • St. Francis-Brooklyn tried to mount the comeback but Nathan DeGraaf (Cranberry Township, PA/Seneca Valley HS), Piotr Wymoczyl (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove HS) and Chase Celichowski (Germantown, Wis./Germantown) recorded a block. 
  • Lewis was able to hold off the Terriers and win the third set 25-19 and win the match 3-0.

FINAL SCORE: Lewis 3, St. Francis-Brooklyn 0

Lewis will have a quick turnaround and be back in action Saturday, January 28 as the Flyers host Maryville University for Global Night at Neil Carey Arena starting at 7 p.m. CT.
