Lewis Women's Basketball Wins Sixth Straight Game; Defeats Ferris State Wednesday

BIG RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Lewis University women's basketball team won their sixth straight game as the Flyers defeated Ferris State, 74-67, at Jim Wink Arena Wednesday (Jan. 4).

GAME SUMMARY
Ferris State jumped out to a 5-2 lead before Lewis scored eight straight points after a three-pointer by Hilber made it 10-5. The Bulldogs cut into the lead and recorded four straight points before Badali responded with a three-pointer. 

Ferris State closed out the opening quarter on a 6-2 run which made it tied at 15-all. 

The Flyers scored 10 unanswered points midway through the second quarter which was capped off by a layup by Badali to go up 32-19. 

The Bulldogs looked to cut into the deficit as they cut it down to seven (36-29) with under a minute in the first half but Lewis had the final basket with Hilber making it 38-29 going into the break.

FS cut it down to six points to start the second half then Hilber had the response once again with a three-pointer, making it 43-34 with 6:59 to go in the third. Lewis led 45-37 with 6:10 to play in the third then rallied for 13 straight points capped off by a three by Badali which gave the Flyers a 58-37 advantage. 

FS scored nine straight points to close out the final three minutes in the third quarter to make it a 10-point Lewis lead (58-48). 

Lewis started the fourth quarter with a basket before the Bulldogs had the answer and made it a six-point game with 2:45 to play in the game. The Flyers were able to hold them off as Gugliuzza hit some layups down the stretch as Lewis won 74-67.

Lewis will be back in action and resume GLVC play Saturday, January 7 as the Flyers travel to Bolivar, Mo. to take on Southwest Baptist starting at 1 p.m. CT.
