Lewis Women’s Basketball Cruises To Seventh Straight Victory After Win Over Southwest Baptist University

BOLIVAR, Mo. – The Lewis University's women's basketball team earned their seventh straight win after defeating Southwest Baptist University 77-49. The Flyers shot 60 percent from the field and better than 70 percent from the free throw line in the victory.

SUMMARY
Lewis jumped out to a 10-5 lead to start to the game with Taylor Gugliuzza (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln-Way West) scoring four of the Flyers first 10 points. The Flyers extended the lead to 17-8 before Southwest Baptist ended the first quarter scoring five points in the final minute.

The Flyers started the second quarter on a 9-0 run, holding the Bearcats scoreless through the first four and a half minutes. Lewis ended the first half with a nine-point lead as they held Southwest Baptist to 11-of-29 shooting from the field and 3-for-13 from 3-point range.

In the third quarter, Lewis outscored Southwest Baptist 22-10, extending its lead to 21. The Flyers had a stretch where they held the Bearcats scoreless for a four-minute span.

Southwest Baptist shot 9-for-34 from the field in the second half and scored a total of 49 points.

As for Lewis, they ended the contest shooting 30-of-50 (60 percent) from the field Schmidt notched her third double-double of the season as she scored 14 points and snatched 10 rebounds. Lily Courier (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) led all scorers with 20 points.

UP NEXT
After completing the three game road trip and winning all three games by an average of 13.6 points, The Flyers return home to host No. 3-ranked Drury University on Thursday, January 12. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.
