Lewis Men's Soccer Beats Missouri S&T on Late Goal

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University men's soccer team won, 3-2, over Missouri S&T at Lewis Stadium Sunday. Charles Callback netted the game-winning goal with 1:38 left for the Flyers.

HALF BREAKDOWN
FIRST HALF: Lewis 2, Missouri S&T 2
Lewis started fast, with Holzer scoring on the first shot of the match at the 3:48 mark. Darlage set up the opening score for his first assist of the season. The Flyers kept pushing, increasing the lead to 2-0 with a goal by Bogers, his sixth of the season, at the 24:53 mark. Sibaai earned the assist for his first collegiate point.

But Missouri S&T then came charging back with goals at the 32:33 and 37:42 marks to tie the match at two. Lewis took three more shots in the first half, but two were off target and the third was saved by the Miners goalkeeper.

SECOND HALF: Lewis 1, Missouri S&T 0
Missouri S&T notched the only shot in the first 25 minutes of the second half, but it was blocked by a Flyers defender. Lewis turned on the pressure with three shots in the 71st minute, but all three were blocked. The Flyers produced shots on goal in the 75th and 79th minutes, but both were saved.

Finally, with less than two minutes to play and following two more blocked shots, Carlback broke free to score the game-winner at the 88:22 mark off an assist from Kawaguchi. Lewis prevented Missouri S&T from taking a shot in the closing minute-plus to secure the victory.
