FAYETTE, Ia. - The Lewis University men's soccer team won, 3-2, in a back-and forth match at Upper Iowa Sunday. With the win, the Flyers have clinched a top-5 finish in the Great Lakes Valley Conference, with two games to go and a chance for a conference title still ahead.

HALF BREAKDOWN
FIRST HALF: Lewis 1, Upper Iowa 0
Lewis charged out of the gate, with Revell scoring just 2:02 into the game as he got just enough on his shot to get it by the Upper Iowa goalkeeper and inside the right post.
 
The Peacocks fought back, recording its first shot on goal in the ninth minute, but Doppelhofer made the save by coming up to the top of the box and deflecting the shot right off of Frider Blunck's foot.
 
Neither side earned a shot on goal again until the final 10 minutes of the opening half, when Asore had a shot stopped by the Upper Iowa keeper. The Peacocks then got an opportunity off of a turnover in the 38th minute, but Doppelhofer made the stop once again.
 
SECOND HALF: Lewis 2, Upper Iowa 2
The Flyers looked to add to the lead early in the second half, with Asore taking another shot on goal in the 47th minute, but the Upper Iowa goalie made a diving save. The Peacocks then tied the game at one at the 50:09 mark.
 
Upper Iowa earned another great scoring chance in the 54th minute, but Doppelhofer made the save on the shot from about 15 yards out. Unfortunately for Lewis, the Peacocks scored again at the 54:43 mark to take the lead.
 
Doppelhofer made another stop, this one diving to his left, in the 59th minute to keep it a one-goal deficit, and the Flyers took advantage just over 10 minutes later.
 
At the 68:39 mark, it was Bogers finding the net just inside the left post to tie the match, 2-2. The senior got the ball from a great give-and-go with Asore and put it where the Upper Iowa goalkeeper couldn't reach.
 
After Bogers had another shot on goal stopped, it was Asore who broke the tie with a goal at the 76:13 mark. The junior picked up the ball in the box off a great pass between two Upper Iowa defenders from Bogers, and pushed it past the Peacock keeper and inside the right post for the game-winning goal.
 
Upper Iowa had two more chances the rest of the match, in the 84th and 90th minutes, the latter a great chance with a lot of traffic shortly following a free kick, but Doppelhofer stopped both to secure the win.

Lewis men's soccer heads back home for a matchup with GLVC leader Illinois-Springfield Friday (Oct. 27) at 7:30 p.m. CT at Lewis Stadium. A win for the Flyers would secure home field for the first round of the GLVC Conference Tournament and move Lewis into a tie with the Prairie Stars for the conference lead.
