Lewis Women's Soccer Shuts Out Upper Iowa Sunday

FAYETTE, Iowa -- The Lewis University women's soccer team defeated Upper Iowa 2-0 on the road Sunday (October 22) as the Flyers have extended its undefeated streak to 10 contests.

HALF BREAKDOWN
FIRST HALF: Lewis 0, Upper Iowa 0
Culver looked to get Lewis on the board in the opening minute with a shot attempt but it was off target. Isabella Vargas (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) and CosaBella Milazzo (Orland Park, Ill./Victor J. Andrew) went on the attack for a scoring chance in the first 10 minutes but Upper Iowa's goalie saved both shot on goal attempts. 

Both teams traded a pair of shots in the next 20 minutes but none were able to find the back of the net. Towards the end of the first half, Upper Iowa tried to get on the scoreboard with a pair of shots but both went off target. 

Brooke Harris (Highland, N.Y./Highland) tried to sneak one through in the closing minute of the first half but her shot went high. 

SECOND HALF: Lewis 2, Upper Iowa 0
Hadzic recorded the first shot on goal attempt in the second half but Upper Iowa's goalie saved it. Upper Iowa responded with four straight shots in the next 10 minutes but two were saved by Nielsen. Vargas and Culver recorded a pair of shot on goal attempts in next few minutes but they were saved. 

Culver recorded another shot which was saved in the 66th minute but Hadzic got the rebound off the save and found the back of the net for her sixth goal of the season. Culver doubled the Flyers lead their next possession to make it 2-0 in the 68th minute.

Upper Iowa recorded five shots in the next 20 minutes looking to get on the scoreboard but none found the back of the net and three were saved by Nielsen. Vargas looked to make it 3-0 with her shot attempt but it was off target. 

FINAL SCORE: Lewis 2, Upper Iowa 0

The Lewis women's soccer team returns for its final two home regular season matches of the season as the Flyers host Illinois-Springfield Friday (Oct. 27) at 5 p.m.
