GRIFFITH, Ind. -- The Lewis University men's tennis team traveled to the Purdue Northwest Invite Friday and Saturday at the Match Point Tennis & Fitness Club.
Oliwer Wierzbicki (Szczecin, Poland/Tennessee State) was crowned champion of the singles Flight B draw. Wierzbicki defeated Davi Toledo of Olivet Nazarene 3-6, 6-4, 10-6. Wierzbicki then went on to defeat Awal Adhirit in a three set tiebreaker 6-7, 7-6, 10-5. In the championship match, Wierzbicki defeated Santiago Flores of Bethel University in straight sets 6-4,6-1.
Indrek Soome (Pielavesi, Finland) advanced all the way to the semi-finals in Flight A after winning a pair of matches. Soome defeated Chicago State's Pedro Diaz in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5. Soome went on to defeat Samuel Dickson of Purdue Northwest in a three set tiebreaker, 4-6,6-4,10-7. The sophomore eventually fell in the semi-finals to Luka Markovic of Bethel University,6-3,5-7,5-10.
Matias Parzajuk (Buenos Aires, Argentina) defeated Purdue Northwest's Pedro Diaz 7-6, 6-0, before eventually falling to finalist Luka Markovic of Bethel University, 6-7, 6-4, 10-6.
Grant Miller (Charlestown, Ind./Silver Creek) defeated Carlos Gomez of Olivet Nazarene 6-2, 6-2. Miller then suffered defeat against Daniel Jancic of Bethel University 6-0, 6-3.
In flight C
Brayden Bartecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) fell to Olivet Nazarene's Taiga Kurosu 7-5, 5-7, 7-10. Kristen Clement-Pavitt fell to Bethel University's Martin Gaviria 6-0, 6-3.
Tatenda Mutetwa (Harare, Zimbabwe) fell to Dani Chicano from Purdue Northwest 6-3, 6-3.
That concludes the fall season and Lewis will return to action in the spring semester.
