ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University men's soccer team won, 4-2, over Quincy on Senior Day at Lewis Stadium Sunday (Oct. 29). The win secured the No. 2 seed for the Flyers in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament.
Arturs Gorodnickis (Riga, Latvia/Riga) scored two goals including the game-winner for Lewis.

HALF BREAKDOWN
FIRST HALF: Lewis 3, Quincy 0
Lewis came out of the gate hot, with Holzer taking the first shot of the match in the sixth minute, but it was saved. The Flyers came right back at the 16:44 mark with a goal by Asore to open the scoring. The junior got the ball in the box off of a great pass from Holzer, who sent the ball around the goalkeeper and to the foot of Asore for the score.

In the 25th minute, Lewis went on the attack again as
Mikey Revell (Largo, Maryland/Bishop McNamara) and Asore both took shots on goal before Gorodnickis punched home the rebound at the 25:07 mark for the Flyers' second goal. Asore earned the assist on the score.

Gorodnickis scored again at the 31:52 mark as he headed in a shot shortly following a corner kick. Neither team was able to take possession after the corner, and the ball stayed up in the air in the box until the junior got his head on it for the score.

The Flyers took three more shots in the first half, including one on goal by Bogers, but none found the net. Lewis held Quincy without a shot attempt for the entire first half.

SECOND HALF: Quincy 2, Lewis 1
Lewis looked to extend the lead early in the second half, with Bogers taking another shot on goal in the opening minute, but the Hawks' goalkeeper made the save.

Bogers then scored on a penalty kick at the 51:19 mark. The senior put the shot just under the crossbar, out of the reach of the leaping Quincy goaltender.

The Hawks earned a shot on goal in the 60th minute, but Doppelhofer made the save. Quincy found a hot stretch, taking shots again in the 62nd and 63rd minutes, with Doppelhofer stopping both.

Lewis then put freshman
Jeremiah Higgins (Chicago, Ill./Lane Tech) in goal, and the Hawks scored at the 67:13 and 68:36 marks.

The teams then traded off-target shots, with Quincy coming close to biting into the deficit once more with a shot off the crossbar in the 83rd minute. Bogers had the last shot of the game in the 89th minute, with the Hawks' goalkeeper making the save.
