WHITEWATER, Wis. -- The Lewis University women's tennis team competed at the Wisconsin-Whitewater Invite over the weekend.
In the No. 1 singles draw,
Sofiia Vdovychenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) defeated Northern Illinois' Jenna Horne in the first round matchup before falling to Wisconsin-Milwaukee's Nadia Konieva.
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) was also in the No. 1 singles draw as she defeated Whitewater's Cassie Lee before falling to UWM's Laure Razel.
In the No. 2 singles draw,
Benedetta Luccone (Roccagorga, Italy) won her opening matchup against Whitewater's Gracie Ha before losing to Wisconsin Milwaukee's Babette Burgerskijk.
In the No. 3 singles draw,
Anabel Aguilar (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/South Carolina State) was able to win the championship in her pairing with three wins. In the first round matchup, Aguilar defeated Whitewater's Molly Asfeld 8-5.
During Aguilar's next match, she defeated Eveline Anastasi of Wisconsin-Milwaukee in a three-set tiebreaker 6-2, 5-7 (13-11). In the championship game, Aguilar took down Roosevelt's Fabiola Rivas in straight sets 6-4, 6-2.
In the No. 1 doubles draw,
Sreevally Varma Medishetti and Aguilar lost in their matchup against UWM's Babette Burgersdijk and Sara Simonova 6-3. Vdovychenko and Smith were also in the same draw as they advanced to the championship match as the duo defeated USF's Anna Bintsarovkaya and Gabriella Noa.
The duo went on to defeat Burgersdijk and Simonova 6-4 in the semifinals. In the championship match, the two suffered defeat against Lare Razet/Nadiia Konieva of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
