ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University women's soccer team defeated Missouri-St. Louis, 1-0, on Sunday (Nov. 5) in the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Quarterfinal round.

HALF BREAKDOWN
FIRST HALF: Lewis 0, Missouri-St. Louis 0
The opening of the half started with a trade-off of shots by both sides but none were able to find the back of the net. Lewis gathered its offense early with three shots on goal by Aguilar,
Grace DeVaux (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield North), and Hadzic in the 11th, 15th and 23rd minutes but all three were saved by the UMSL goalkeeper.
For the remainder of the first half, defense continued to be the key to both sides. Over the next 22 minutes, only two shots on goal were taken, both by the Tritons, in the 25th and 40th minutes, with Nielsen saving both.
SECOND HALF: Lewis 1, Missouri-St. Louis 0
Missouri-St. Louis opened up the second half with a trio of shots, one of which was on goal, but it was saved again by Nielsen.
At the 56th minute,
Breanna Culver (Roscoe, Ill./Wisconsin-Milwaukee) broke the tie with a goal on the Flyers' first shot of the half. The sophomore struck the ball inside the right post and out of the reach of the UMSL goalkeeper for the game-winning goal.
The Tritons increased the pressure on Lewis as the final minutes closed in, with shots on goal in the 84th and 89th minutes, with Nielsen earning her 6th and 7th saves of the match with no goals allowed. The shutout went as Nielsen's eighth of the season, while the seven saves tied her season-high.
