SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. -- The Lewis University men's basketball team defeated Lake Superior State on the road 83-78 Saturday (December 30).

SUMMARY
Hill and Frericks started the game with back-to-back baskets. LSSU responded with a three-pointer before the Flyers scored eight unanswered including three-pointers by
Devon Vanderheydt (Washington, Ill./Washington) and Hill.
The Lakers looked to respond but Lewis kept its foot on the gas after seven consecutive points from Kirciman to make it 24-8 Flyers with 11:50 left in the first half. Lake Superior State went on a 9-3 run the next three minutes to cut it down to 10 (27-17).
Lewis then scored six straight after baskets from Frericks and back-to-back baskets by Kapustka made it 35-20. Moments later, Frericks nailed a three-pointer which made it 44-32 with 1:14 left before the break.
Lake Superior State closed out the half with back-to-back threes which cut it down to six (44-38) at the break.
The Lakers started the second half with a three-pointer to make it 44-41 Lewis. LSSU took the lead (56-55) later in the half after knocking down a pair of free throws.
Lewis was able to carry momentum back on its side after Stroud converted on a three-point play which made it 61-56 with 10:56 to play in the contest. The Flyers later extended the lead out to 68-57 with 9:22 remaining.
LSSU had one last push as the Lakers made it a one-point game (75-74) and (77-76) but Lewis was able to hold them off. Lewis picked up the 83-78 victory.
