Lewis Men's Basketball Suffers Narrow Defeat to Truman State Saturday

KIRKSVILLE, Mo. – The Lewis University men's basketball team suffered a close defeat against host Truman State, 65-64, Saturday evening (Feb. 9).

SUMMARY
Truman State led 10-6 in the five minutes of the game before Lewis scored eight unanswered to go up 14-10 after a layup by Zrnic. The Bulldogs responded with a basket before Lewis scored back-to-back buckets by Hill and Colin Kenney (Michigan City, Ind./Furman)

The Flyers extended their lead out to 9 (26-17) with 6:07 to go after a basket by Hill. The Bulldogs responded with eight unanswered to cut it down to one (26-25) with 3:48 left before the break. 

Lewis had the ensuing basket from Zrnic before Truman State scored five unanswered to take a 32-30 lead at halftime. 

Zrnic and Hill started the second half with consecutive baskets to regain the lead at 34-32 in the opening minute of the second. The Bulldogs again had the answer this time knocking down a pair of threes in succession. 

Truman would eventually extend their lead out to eight (49-41) with 12:44 to go. Lewis crawled their way back to a one possession contest after a three-pointer by Elijah Williams (Lawrenceville, Ga./Illinois State) and basket by Hill. 

Moments later, the Flyers were able to tie the game up at 57-all with six minutes left. Both teams would trade baskets the next four minutes before Frericks tied with 2:34 to go. 

The Bulldogs and Flyers did not have a basket the rest of the contest as it came down to the line. Truman knocked down their two free throws with 1:55 left and Lewis had a chance to force overtime with three seconds left but split the pair as the Bulldogs won 65-64.
