Lewis Women’s Basketball Honors Seniors With Victory Against Rockhurst Saturday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University women's basketball team won their seventh straight game as the Flyers defeated Rockhurst, 74-62, on Senior Day, Saturday (Feb. 18).

SUMMARY
Lewis jumped out to a 15-6 lead after a three-pointer by Jenna Badali (Oak Lawn, Ill./Mother McAuley). The Flyers led 17-10 with 1:36 left in the opening quarter before Hilber and Lily Courier (LaGrange, Ill./Lyons Township) made layups to close out the period for a 22-10 lead. 

Rockhurst started the second quarter with a three-pointer and a jumper to cut it down to seven (22-15). Hilber picked up a three-pointer and Badali scored a layup to extend it back out to 12 points. 

The Hawks made back-to-back three pointers to make it 27-21 with 2:05 before the break. Hilber ended the first half with a basket which gave Lewis a 31-23 lead at halftime. 

Hilber and Schmidt recorded back-to-back baskets to start the second half. Shawnton Brown (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Central) extended the lead out to 17 for the Flyers with 4:19 left in the third. 

Lindsay Harrison (Yorkville, Ill./Yorkville) ended the third quarter with a layup to give Lewis a 53-39 lead. 

Hilber started the fourth quarter with a 3-pointer. Schmidt hit a layup to make it 62-44 then Rockhurst scored five straight and the Flyers expanded their lead even further. 

Ryann Ogarek (New Lenox, Ill./Providence Catholic) hit a layup to make it 74-57 with 1:03 left in the game. Lewis held on to win the game 74-62.

Lewis will be back in action Thursday, Feb. 23 as the Flyers travel to Missouri S&T starting at 5:30 p.m. CT.
