Lewis Men's Lacrosse Defeats Roberts Wesleyan Sunday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University men's lacrosse team won their second straight contest as the Flyers defeated Roberts Wesleyan, 18-12, at Lewis Stadium, Sunday (Feb. 19).

QUARTER BREAKDOWN
FIRST QUARTER: Lewis 7, Roberts Wesleyan 0
  •  Jack Speers (Glenview, IL/) scored the opening goal of the contest in the first minute after receiving the ball from Kevin Blaz (McHenry, IL/)
  •  Boyenko made it 2-0 in favor of Lewis at 10:44 in the first quarter from the pass of Nate McLean (Crystal Lake, IL/)
  •  Andre expanded the lead out to 3-0 not even two minutes later after Dominic Bravata (Portage, MI/) found him.
  • Lewis made it 4-0 but it was a flip from their previous goal as Bravata passed it into Andre.
  • Clement scored his first goal of the game after Boyenko him with 3:51 left in the first period. 
  • A little more than a minute left Boyenko found Anthony Mattio (Plainfield, IL/) to make it 6-0.
  • Boyenko found the back of the net this time with his second goal of the match after he made it 7-0.
SECOND QUARTER: Lewis 11, Roberts Wesleyan 4
  • Mattio scored his second goal of the match after Roberts Wesleyan responded with three unanswered to start the second. 
  • Andre recorded goal No. 2 as well with 5:36 left before halftime to make it 9-3 in favor of Lewis.
  • Clement picked up his second goal of the match from Boyenko with 4:29 remaining before the half to expand the lead out to 10-3.
  • Clement then recorded his hat trick with 1:14 left before half to give the Flyers a 11-4 lead at the break.
THIRD QUARTER: Lewis 17, Roberts Wesleyan 7
  •  Kevin Blaz (McHenry, IL/) scored his first goal of the match in the opening minute of the second half to make it 12-4.
  •  Boyenko recorded his hat trick a minute later after Luke Schroeder (Plymouth, MN/) found him which made it 13-4.
  •  Boyenko was not done as he recorded his team high fourth goal off the pass from Jack Speers (Glenview, IL/) in with 11:10 left in the third quarter to expand the lead out to 14-4.
  •  Speers decided to join the scoring after a goal from RWU to make it a 10-point lead again with 7:01 left.
  •  Boyenko added his fifth and final goal of the game after Andre found him to make it 16-5 with 6:10 remaining in the third.
  • Speers scored his second in the closing seconds of the third quarter after the RedHawks scored two back to make it 17-7.
FOURTH QUARTER: Lewis 18, Roberts Wesleyan 12
  • Roberts Wesleyan scored the first four goals of the fourth quarter.
  • Schroeder joined the scoring with 2:31 left in the game from the pass from Andre with 2:31 left.
  • RWU scored another goal less than 10 seconds later and that was it. 
  • Lewis came out on top 18-12.
FINAL SCORE: Lewis 18, Roberts Wesleyan 12
