Lewis Baseball Drops Pair Against Trevecca Nazarene Friday

NASHVILLE, Tenn. -- The Lewis University baseball team dropped a pair of games in its doubleheader against host Trevecca Nazarene at Jackson Field Friday (Feb. 24). The Trojans won game 1 5-1 before winning the second game 6-0.

GAME 1: Trevecca Nazarene 5, Lewis 1
Trevecca struck first in the third inning after scoring on a wild pitch to make it 1-0. The Trojans added to their lead with a three-run blast to left which made it 4-0. 

Lewis was able to get one back in the bottom of the fifth after Jack Blazevich (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South) hit a RBI groundout, scoring Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic)

TNU got the run right back in the bottom half of the inning after ripping an RBI single up the middle. 

Lewis starting pitcher Shane Gorman (Orland Park, Ill./Br. Rice) (0-1) was hit with the defeat after going six innings, scattering seven hits, allowing five earned runs, walking one and striking out five. 

Ryan Manikowski (New Lenox, Ill./Providence) pitched a scoreless seventh inning in relief, allowing two hits and striking out two. Anthony Sorrentino (Burr Ridge, Ill./Lyons Township) pitched a scoreless eighth inning.

GAME 2: Trevecca Nazarene 6, Lewis 0
Trevecca went up 3-0 in the opening inning after recording an RBI double and converting a Flyer miscue, which scored a pair of runs.

The Trojans doubled their lead in the third inning as TNU scored three more runs to make it 6-0. 

Lewis had its chance in the top of the fourth after having Michael Alt (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) and Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) record base hits but TNU was able to escape the jam. 

Dalton Crowder (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield East), Jackson Brown (Oconomowoc, Wis./Oconomowoc) and AJ Casmer (Lisle, Ill./Lisle) all pitched scoreless frames in relief for the Flyers.

UP NEXT
Lewis will be back in action Wednesday, March 1 as the Flyers take on the University of St. Francis (Ill.) starting at 2 p.m. at Brennan Field.
