Lewis Men's Basketball Have Second Half Woes in Setback Against William Jewell Thursday

LIBERTY, Mo. – The Lewis University men's basketball team suffered a setback against William Jewell, 82-54, Thursday evening (Feb. 9).

SUMMARY
William Jewell led 9-7 early in the contest before Lewis scored five straight after a three-pointer by Zrnic and a jumper by Frericks made it 12-9 with 15:09 left in the first half. 

Moments later, Lewis extended their lead to 17-10 after a three-pointer by Kenney. Lewis extended their lead out to 29-16 after Elijah Williams (Lawrenceville, Ga./Illinois State) converted a three-point play with 9:03 left in the first half. 

The next three minutes, William Jewell scored 14 unanswered points to grab a 30-29 lead with 6:09 left before the break. Anthony Sayles Jr. (Evanston, Ill./Norte Dame Prep) gave the Flyers back the lead after knocking down a three-pointer which made it 32-30. 

Both teams traded baskets towards the end of the first half. Lewis looked to gain some momentum going into the half after Frericks converted on a three-point play to give the Flyers a 38-36 lead. 

Jamere Hill (Joliet, Ill./Toledo) started the second half with a basket to give Lewis a 40-36 lead. WJC had control from that point on as the Cardinals went on a 28-3 run the next nine minutes to go up 64-43 with 10:48 left in the game.

Sayles responded with a basket but the Cardinals scored 12 in a row for a 77-45 advantage with 4:32 left in the game. William Jewell went on to win the contest 82-54.

Lewis will be back in action Saturday, February 11 as the Flyers travel to Kirksville, Mo. to take on Truman State starting at 3 p.m. CT.
