MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Lewis University men's volleyball used all five sets to defeat No. 9 Ball State, 3-2, to open up Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play Thursday (Feb. 9).

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: Lewis 25, Ball State 22
- Both teams scored four points each before Lewis rallied off four straight capped off by a block by Antonio Rodriguez-Elias (Naranjito, Puerto Rico/Colegio Sagrada Familia) and Roquet.
- Moments later, John Davis (Naperville, Ill./Naperville Central) extended the Flyers lead to 14-8 after recording a kill.
- Ball State looked to come back as the Cardinals cut it down to 18-14 then Roquet and Rodriguez-Elias recorded back-to-back kills.
- The Cardinals cut it down to one (23-22) but then Lewis picked up straight points including the game-winning point by Roquet and Sack.
SECOND SET: Ball State 25, Lewis 19
- Both teams each scored seven points each before Ball State scored two straight to make it 9-7.
- Moments later, the Cardinals went ahead 16-12 before went on a 4-1 rally after a kill from Prayer to cut it down to one.
- Ball State led 18-17 late in the second set before the Cardinals scored five straight points to go up 23-17.
- Cole Brillhart (York, Pa./Northeastern) recorded a kill to try to get the Flyers back in the set before Ball State tied the match at 1-1.
THIRD SET: Lewis 25, Ball State 23
- The Cardinals led 7-5 early in the third set before back-to-back kills from Rodriguez-Elias and Prayer tied it up.
- Ball State led 12-8 before Lewis rallied off three straight points capped off by a service ace by Prayer.
- The Flyers were able to take a 15-14 lead after a kill from Roquet.
- Moments later, BSU led 19-17 before three straight points which was capped by a block from Brillhart, Prayer, and Sack.
- Lewis won the third set 25-23 by winning back-to-back points and went up 2-1.
FOURTH SET: Ball State 25, Lewis 20
- Lewis led 5-3 early in the fourth set after a kill from Piotr Wymoczyl (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove HS).
- Ball State used a rally to go ahead 9-7 before the Flyers scored three out of the next four to tie it at 10-all.
- The Cardinals grabbed a 22-19 lead late in the fourth set before Lewis made it 22-20 after a kill from Sack.
- Ball State forced a fifth set after the Cardinals scored the last three points which made it 25-20.
FIFTH SET: Lewis 18, Ball State 16
- Both teams each scored three points to make it 3-all.
- Lewis went on a 5-2 scoring rally which was capped off by a kill from Sack before both teams switched sides.
- Ball State rallied to tie the fifth set at 10 a piece then the Cardinals led 13-11 late in fifth set.
- The Flyers got right back in it with the three straight after a block from Morgan and Sack.
- Both teams would trade points before making it 16-16 then Lewis scored the last two points to win the fifth set 18-16 and the match 3-2.
