Lewis Baseball Wins Second Straight in Florida After Win Over Ashland Thursday

DAVENPORT, Fla. -- The Lewis University baseball team won its second consecutive game after beating Ashland University 6-4 at Northeast Regional Park Field. The Flyers used a four-run inning in the bottom of the seventh to propel past the Eagles.

SUMMARY
Lewis was the first team to score in the contest in the fourth as Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic) scored on an error by the Ashland infield.
 
The Eagles responded the following inning, scoring four runs in the fifth. Lewis got one back in the bottom half after David Ascencio (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield Central) hit a single to make it 4-2.

The Flyers got even closer after scoring one more run in the bottom of the sixth after Ascencio hit an RBI single that drove which drove in LeBeau. 
 
Lewis scored four more runs In the bottom of the seventh to grab a 6-4 lead. Kevin Barry (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) hit an RBI single, LeBeau recorded a RBI double then a wild pitch scored Jack Blazevich (Woodridge, Ill./Downers Grove South)
  
LeBeau led the Flyers after going 3-4 at the plate with three RBI. Julian Everett (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East), Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian), Barry and Cantelo had two hits each.

Lewis starting pitcher Luke Carlson (Granville, Ill./Putnam County) received no decision after pitching five innings, allowing six hits, giving up four runs (three earned), walking two and striking out seven. 

Colin Amsden (1-0) picked up the win after pitching the seventh inning in relief. Matt Piento (Indian Head Park, Ill./Lyons) recorded his first save after a pair of strikeouts in the ninth.
 
UP NEXT
Lewis will be back in action Friday, March 10 for a matchup against Winona State University at 12 p.m. at the Lake Myrtle Sports Complex.
