ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University baseball team dropped three of four games to Illinois Springfield Sunday and Monday at Brennan Field to open the Great Lakes Valley Conference season.

SUMMARY
The Flyers dropped game one 12-1. The Prairie Stars scored three runs in the second, six in the third and three in the fourth. Lewis scored its lone run on an
Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic) home run in the sixth.
Chad Saner (3-1) earned the win for UIS, allowing two hits over four innings, striking out four, while
Luke Carlson (Granville, Ill./Putnam County) (0-1) had the loss, allowing six earned runs in two innings.
Lewis battled back for a 2-0 win in the second game Sunday in seven innings.
Jake Karaba (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) (2-0) went the distance, allowing just two hits while striking out 12 for the shutout.

Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) double got the Flyers on the board in the bottom of the first inning, scoring
Michael Alt (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly).
Julian Everett (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East) added an insurance run in the sixth inning with a double, which scored
Tony Fleischauer (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic).
The Flyers built a 5-1 lead in the third game, but couldn't hold on, falling 8-5.
Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian) homered to lead off the first inning to get things started for the Flyers, while a
Kevin Barry (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) sacrifice bunt added to the scoring as Alt crossed home plate.
After a Prairie Star run in the fourth inning made it 2-1, Lewis came back with three more runs in the bottom of the inning as McDevitt hit a three-run home run.
But UIS came back with four in the fifth to tie the game and three more in the eighth to pull ahead. The Flyers went down in order in the bottom of the eighth to end the game.
Matt Helwig (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) (0-2) suffered the loss for the Flyers.
In the final game a
Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) single tied the game at 1-1 in the second inning. Lewis fell behind 2-1 in the top of the third but took the lead in the bottom of the third as Barry doubled home Fox and
David Ascencio (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield Central) doubled home Barry.
UIS would pull ahead 12-3 before Lewis scored five runs in the seventh inning for the 12-8 final. Headrick hit a grand slam, while
Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) singled home a run.
Ryan Manikowski (New Lenox, Ill./Providence) (1-2) suffered the loss for the Flyers.
