LEBANON, Ill. -- The Lewis University baseball team split its four game series against McKendree Saturday and Sunday in Great Lakes Valley Conference play.

SUMMARY
GAME 1 Saturday: McKendree 11, Lewis 10
Lewis dropped game one 11-10 after leading 5-2 going into the seventh.
David Ascencio (Joliet, Ill./Plainfield Central) started the scoring after walking with the bases loaded, scoring
Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic).
Julian Everett (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East) extended the lead to 3-0 after ripping a two-run double to left center which scored
Cherokee LeBeau (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka) and
Kevin Barry (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin).
McKendree got one back in the bottom half of the first inning to make it 3-1. The Flyers went on to get that run back the following inning after Cantelo drove home
Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian) with his RBI single to make it 4-1.
Cantelo extended the lead out to 5-1 in the sixth after grounding out to third bringing home
Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic).
The Bearcats went on to score nine times in the sixth and seventh including eight in the seventh which gave McKendree a 10-5 lead.
Lewis got one back in the top of the eighth after Cantelo hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Fox from third which made it 10-6. The Flyers tied it the following inning after
Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) hit a RBI double that scored Everett.
Fox tied it with a three-run homer to left which scored Headrick and McDevitt. McKendree walked it off in the bottom of the ninth to win game one.
GAME 2 Saturday: Lewis 5, McKendree 2
The Flyers responded with a 5-2 victory in won game two Saturday.
Jake Karaba (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) (3-0) picked up the win after going all seven innings, allowing two hits, two runs (one earned), walking four and striking out 13.
Headrick started the scoring in the top of the second after recording a RBI single which scored Everett.
Michael Alt (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) doubled the lead to make it 2-0 after hitting a RBI single down the left field line which scored
Patrick Keaty (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin).
McKendree responded and got one back in the bottom half of the second.
Lewis extended the lead out to 3-1 after a Bearcats miscue scored Headrick. The Bearcats made it 3-2 after a dropped third strike.
The Flyers added two insurance runs in the seventh after Keaty hit a RBI single to left which scored LeBeau and Headrick reached on a fielder's choice which scored Everett which made it 5-2.
Karaba got three strikeouts to in the bottom half of the seventh to close out the game.
GAME 1 Sunday: Lewis 14, McKendree 7
Lewis won the first game Sunday 14-7 after starting out with five runs in the first inning.
Barry walked with the bases loaded, LeBeau had a two-run single, Everett recorded a RBI groundout and
Jason Krol (Chicago, Ill./St. Laurence) had a RBI single to left which made it 5-0 early.
The Flyers extended its lead to 7-0 with a pair of runs in the second inning. Cantelo ripped a RBI single which scored Fox and Barry hit a sacrifice fly which scored Alt.
McKendree responded with a couple of runs in the bottom half of the second.
Fox was able to get one back for Lewis the following inning after recording a RBI single which scored Krol.
The Bearcats got another pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth which made it 8-4. Fox got the two runs back after hitting a big fly to left center to make it 10-4 in the fifth.
McKendree scored a run in the bottom of the sixth to make it 10-5 Lewis. Fox connected on his second home run in consecutive at-bats to extend the lead out to 11-5 in the seventh.
Berry extended the Lewis lead to 14-5 after hitting one over the wall later in the seventh. The Bearcats scored two more in the bottom half but Lewis still came out on top 14-7.
GAME 2 Sunday: McKendree 14, Lewis 9
McKendree took the second game 14-9. The Bearcats scored two in the first and one in the second to grab a early 3-0 lead.
Lewis responded with a five spot in the top of the third to make it 5-3 Flyers. Headrick hit a two-run home run to left center which scored Keaty.
Fox connected on his fourth home run of the weekend to tie the contest then moments later Cantelo hit one over the fence to make it 5-3.
The Bearcats quickly tied it at 5-5 in the bottom half of the third. Alt gave the Flyers back the lead after his RBI single scored Fox.
Both teams scored three runs a piece which made it 9-9 before McKendree scored five unanswered the next two innings to pull ahead 14-9.
