Lewis Men’s Volleyball Defeats Purdue Fort Wayne Saturday

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – The Lewis University men's volleyball team bounced back after defeating Purdue Fort Wayne 3-1 at Neil Carey Arena Saturday (March 24).

SET BREAKDOWN
FIRST SET: Purdue Fort Wayne 25, Lewis 23
  • Both teams each scored eight points to start the opening set. 
  • Lewis rallied for three straight which was capped off by a block by Elias-Rodriguez and Morgan. 
  • The Mastadons responded and took a 18-17 lead moments later. 
  • Lewis got the next point after a kill from Brillhart and PFW went on a 5-1 run which helped them to a 25-23 set victory.
SECOND SET: Lewis 25, Purdue Fort Wayne 18
  • Purdue Fort Wayne started the set ahead 3-1 before Lewis recorded four straight kills.
  • Moments later, Sack recorded back-to-back service aces for a 8-4 lead. 
  • The Mastadons looked to respond and cut it down to two before the Flyers scored four straight. 
  • Lewis was able to hang on and tied it at 1-1 after winning the second set 25-18. 
THIRD SET: Lewis 25, Purdue Fort Wayne 15
  • Lewis started the third set after scoring four straight points.
  • The Flyers went on to grab a 14-4 lead after a block from Sack and Brillhart. 
  • Piotr Wymoczyl (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove HS) recorded a kill which gave Lewis a 19-8 lead. 
  • PFW cut it down to 22-15 then Lewis won the third set after recording three straight points. 
FOURTH SET: Lewis 25, Purdue Fort Wayne 22
  • Purdue Fort Wayne started the fourth set up 7-3. 
  • Lewis bounced back and scored four straight after kills from Brillhart and Prayer. 
  • Both teams traded points making it 14-14. 
  • The Flyers responded with three straight points capped by an ace by Ryan Collins (Dublin, Calif./Valley Christian).
  • PFW scored four straight of their own to regain a 18-17 lead late in the fourth. 
  • Lewis proceeded to go on a 7-2 run off a block from Roquet, Sack and Morgan for a 24-20 lead. 
  • Roquet won the match for the Flyers after recording a kill. 
FINAL SCORE: Lewis 3, Purdue Fort Wayne 1
