CLERMONT, Fla. -- The Lewis University softball team swept the first day of THE Spring Games as the Flyers defeated Northwood 9-3 and Lake Erie College 3-2 at Legends Way Ballfields in Clermont, Florida Sunday (March 5).
GAME 1: Lewis 9, Northwood 3
GAME SUMMARY
Northwood struck first with two runs in the opening inning. Lewis responded in a big way with a five-spot in the top of the third inning.
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) hit a RBI groundout,
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) and
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) ripped RBI singles up the middle and
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) reached on an error, which scored Wuske and
Sara Serena (Kankakee, IL/Kankakee).
The Flyers added to their lead in the top of the fourth after Powell hit a RBI double to left center to make it 6-2. The Timberwolves got one back in the bottom half to make it 6-3.
Lewis got three back in the seventh inning after Graham scored after Wuske stole second base.
Gabi Nilles (North Aurora, IL/West Aurora) made it 9-3 after recording a two-run single to center.

Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) (3-1) had the victory on the mound after scattering seven hits, allowing three runs, walking one and striking out two over four innings of work.
Wuske recorded the save for the Flyers while only allowing two hits and striking out three while pitching three strong innings of relief.
GAME 2: Lewis 3, Lake Erie 2
GAME SUMMARY
Lake Erie scored first in the top of the third inning to make it 1-0. Serena recorded the biggest hit of the game in the bottom of the sixth after ripping a bases-clearing double, which scored Graham, Garden and Nilles.
The Storm tried to rally and got one back in the top of the seventh inning, but
Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) escaped the jam and Lewis recorded the victory.
Wondrasek (3-1) picked up the complete game victory, scattering five hits, allowing two runs, one earned, walking two and striking out nine over seven frames.
