Lewis Softball Splits Second Day of Florida Trip on Monday
 
CLERMONT, Fl. – The Lewis University softball team split its two games the second day of THE Spring Games as the Flyers fell to Trevecca Nazarene 2-0 in Game 1, but won Game 2 against Upper Iowa 6-4 in nine innings. Lewis improves to 3-1 thus far two days into its Florida road trip.

SUMMARY
Upper Iowa struck first with a run in the third inning to earn a 1-0 lead. Lewis responded in the top of the fourth, scoring three runs to take a 3-1 lead. The Peacocks scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to tie the game at three.
 
The score remained tied through the seventh inning, forcing extra softball to be played. Both Lewis and Upper Iowa scored a run in the eighth inning, bringing a 4-4 score into the ninth.
 
The Flyers scored two runs at the top of the ninth inning and sealed the win with great pitching in the bottom of the ninth.
 
Despite being out-hit nine to five, Lewis earned the win thanks to committing no errors, while Upper Iowa committed four. 
 
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) led the team with two hits, while Meghan Bontrager (Milford, IN/Northridge) led the group with two RBIs. Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School), Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) and Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) all chipped in with one hit a piece. Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) picked up the win for the Flyers on the mound as she pitched 4 1/3 innings, struck out four batters and allowed two hits. Sara Serena (Kankakee, IL/Kankakee) pitched 4 2/3 innings, giving up seven hits and three earned runs, while striking out four batters as well.

SUMMARY
After five scoreless innings that consisted of seven hits, Trevecca Nazarene was the first to notch a run on the scoreboard in the top of the sixth.
 
The Trojans extended their lead to 2-0 at the top of the seventh inning after a sacrifice fly out by Gracie Kirby brought home Anna Bennett, who hit a single earlier in the inning.
 
For the entirety of the game, Lewis was unable to advance past second base. The Flyers ended the game with four hits, one each from Garden, Powell, Serena and Wuske. Wuske (1-1) suffered her first loss at the mound this season, pitching all seven innings, allowing five hits and one earned run.

Lewis will be back in action for Day 3 of THE Spring Games Tuesday, March 7 as the Flyers take on Winona State University at 8 a.m. and University of Sioux Falls at 10:30 a.m. CT.
