CLERMONT, Fla. - The Lewis University women's softball team earned a split for the second straight day in Florida, defeating Sioux Falls 9-0 before falling to Winona State 3-2 Tuesday (March 7) at Legends Way.

The Flyers opened the scoring in the top half of the first inning when
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) singled home
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School). Lewis would add four more runs in the fifth inning as Graham doubled to left field, scoring
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) and
Toni Rodriguez (Chicago, IL/Nazareth Academy).
Sara Serena (Kankakee, IL/Kankakee) then drove home Graham with a two-run home run to center field for a 5-0 advantage.
Lewis finished off the scoring with four more runs in the sixth inning.
Gabi Nilles (North Aurora, IL/West Aurora) doubled home
Carrie Anderson (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah Community), then
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) drove in
Ella Jacobson (Tinley Park, IL/Lincoln-Way East) on a fielder's choice. A Powell double to center drove in Garden and Nilles to cap off the scoring.
Powell, Serena and Rodriguez each had two hits to lead the Flyers, while Powell, Graham and Serena each had two RBI.
Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) (4-1) picked up the shutout, allowing two hits and striking out four over six innings.

SUMMARY
The Warriors scored all three of their runs in the first inning thanks to a two-run home run and a sacrifice fly.
After that the Flyers chipped away at the lead, scoring runs in the third and fourth innings. Garden hit a sacrifice fly in the third inning to score Nilles, while Megan Bontrager tripled home Serena in the fourth inning. However, she was unable to score after the triple, as a pop out ended the inning.
Lewis was sent down in order in the fifth, sixth and seventh innings to end the game.
Abbie Hlas (5-2) earned the win for the Warriors, allowing two earned runs on four hits in seven innings. Garden (3-2) suffered the loss, allowing eight hits and three earned runs in seven innings, striking out eight. Bontrager had a pair of hits to lead the Flyer offense.
