LEESBURG, Fla. - The Lewis University softball team won both games of its double header defeating Wayne State College 5-2 and Bloomfield College 10-2 in five innings Thursday (March 9) at Sleepy Hallow Softball Complex.

SUMMARY
Lewis entered the run column in the top of the third inning thanks to a run scored by Gabi
Nilles after a walk put her on base and a sacrifice fly by
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School).
Wayne State would score its first run of the game in the bottom of the third.
The Flyers took a two-run lead in the top of the fifth after
Jalyn Powell scored thanks to a triple by
Sara Serena (Kankakee, IL/Kankakee), who would go on to score herself after a double by
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East).
The Wildcats got one back in the bottom of the fifth to make it 3-2.
Lewis scored its fourth and fifth runs in the seventh inning after Graham scored on a wild pitch and Megan Bontrager drove in Wuske.
Wuske picked up the win (2-1) after going seven innings, giving up eight hits, allowing two runs (one earned), issuing two walks and striking out five.

The Flyers got off to a hot start when they scored seven runs in the first inning coming from Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) scoring on a wild pitch, Serena driving home Powell, Bontrager ripping an RBI triple scoring Serena, Bontrager scored off a Bloomfield miscue, Evie Calderon recording a RBI single scoring
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School),
Nilles hitting a RBI double to score Calderon and Garden scoring Niles with an RBI single.
Three more runs would be scored by Lewis in the second inning by way of Wuske and Graham scoring on an error and Bontrager scoring on a Calderon single.
Lewis would keep the Bears scoreless until Bloomfield scored their first run in the third and its second run in the fifth.
Serena (1-2) earned her first win of the season while pitching all five innings, giving up nine hits, allowing two earned runs, issuing one walk, striking out two.
