Lewis Baseball Defeats Notre Dame College Tuesday

WINTER PARK, Fla. -- The Lewis University baseball team defeated Notre Dame College 13-5 Tuesday (March 7) in a nonconference matchup at Rollins College.

SUMMARY
Lewis struck first and scored two runs in the opening inning. Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic) started the scoring after recording a RBI double which scored Michael Alt (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) to make it 1-0. Julian Everett (Frankfort, Ill./Lincoln Way East) made it 2-0 with his RBI single to bring home Cantelo. 
 
Notre Dame would score one run in the fourth and four more in the top of the sixth to take a 5-2 lead. Lewis responded with four runs of its own in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead.
 
George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) walked with the bases loaded which made the score 5-3. Alt also walked, adding another run, moments before Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian) hit a RBI double that gave the Flyers a 6-5 lead.
 
In the seventh inning, Alt hit a RBI single that brought Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) home and extend the lead. Lewis added five more runs in the bottom of the eighth thanks to singles from Cantelo, Cherokee LeBeau (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka) and Alt.
 
The Flyers have scored in double figures in all five of their wins so far this year.
 
AJ Casmer (Lisle, Ill./Lisle) (1-0) picked up the win for Lewis at the mound after recording the final out in the sixth inning. Lewis starting pitcher Anthony Sorrentino (Burr Ridge, Ill./Lyons Township) pitched five innings, gave up three hits, allowed two runs while striking out four, while Matt Helwig (Mokena, Ill./Lincoln-Way Central) recorded the save as he pitched three innings and struck out five.

Lewis will be back in action Thursday, March 9 for a matchup against Ashland University at 2 p.m. CT at Northeast Regional Park Field.
