BELMONT, N.C. -- The Lewis University men's lacrosse team picked up an upset victory against No. 20 Belmont Abbey 14-8 Wednesday (March 8) at Alumni Field.

QUARTER BREAKDOWN
FIRST QUARTER: Lewis 2, Belmont Abbey 2
- Belmont Abbey jumped out to an early 2-0 lead in the first quarter.Â
- Lewis responded in the final 2:11 of the opening period to tie the match at 2-2.
- Mark Crowley (Crystal Lake, IL/Crystal Lake Central HS) found Boyenko for his first goal of the match.
- Drew Andre (Pitt Meadows, British Columbia, Canada/) tied the contest with five seconds left.Â
SECOND QUARTER: Lewis 7, Belmont Abbey 2
- The Flyers opened up the second quarter with some momentum and scored the first two goals of the second.
- Buddelmeyer connected and found the back of the net off the pass from Kevin Blaz (McHenry, IL/Marian Central Catholic HS).
- Blaz got on the scoresheet after recording a goal almost three minutes later.
- The Crusaders got one back 25 seconds later to make it a one-point game again.Â
- Buddelmeyer scored his second goal to extend it to 5-3.
- BAC responded with a goal at the 8:55 mark before Lewis scored the final four goals of the first half.
- Lewis got goals from Andre, Jack Speers (Glenview, IL/), Evan Clement (San Diego, CA/) and Cole Roth (Omaha, NE/Millard West HS) to give them a 9-4 lead at half.
THIRD QUARTER: Lewis 2, Belmont Abbey 1
- Clement opened up the scoring in the second half with another goal that made it 10-4.
- The Crusaders scored a goal nearly three minutes later to cut it down to 10-5.
- Trevor Collier (Millersville, MD/Old Mill High School) knocked one through the back of the net after receiving the ball from Boyenko.Â
FOURTH QUARTER: Lewis 3, Belmont Abbey 3
- Boyenko wasted no time to start the fourth quarter as a minute in the junior scored his second goal.
- Belmont Abbey matched the Flyers with a goal of their own with 13:05 to play.
- Boyenko had his hat trick with 12:09 left in the game after scoring his third goal.
- Buddlemeyer joined Boyenko with a hat trick of his own which extended the lead out to 14-6.
- BAC scored the final two goals of the match with Lewis coming out victorious 14-8.Â
