LIBERTY, Mo. -- The Lewis University softball team swept its doubleheader against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent William Jewell Friday (April 14). The Flyers won the first game 5-0 and the second game 7-1.

Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) started the scoring in the third inning after hitting her fifth home run of the season which scored
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) to make it 2-0.
Garden helped her own cause with a RBI single to left, scoring
Gabi Nilles (North Aurora, IL/West Aurora) which extended the lead to 3-0 in the seventh.
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) hit her fourth home run of the season later that inning to make it 5-0.
Garden (10-5) recorded the victory in the circle after going seven scoreless, allowing three hits, walking one and striking out seven.
GAME 2: Lewis 7, William Jewell 1
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) reached on a fielder's choice in the first inning which plated Powell and Graham to make it 2-0.
William Jewell got one right back in the second inning to make it 2-1 but Lewis held the Cardinals off the scoreboard for the rest of the game.
Graham recorded her second home run of the day which scored Graham to make it 4-1 in the fifth inning.
Moments later,
Carrie Anderson (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah Community) hit a three-run home run scoring Wuske and
Emma Young (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West) to extend the lead to 7-1.
Wuske (4-3) picked up the win after going seven innings, allowing one run, giving up seven hits, walking two and striking out four.

Lewis will be back in action Sunday, April 16 in a GLVC doubleheader as the Flyers travel to Truman State starting at noon.
