ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University softball team split its doubleheader against Great Lakes Valley Conference opponent Illinois Springfield at Lewis Softball Field Sunday (April 2). The Flyers won the first game 10-1 then the Prairie Stars won the second game 6-4.

GAME 1: Lewis 10, UIS 1 (5 innings)
Lewis struck first after scoring four in the opening inning.
Sara Serena (Kankakee, IL/Kankakee) drove in
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) with a RBI single,
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) brought home
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) with a single then Wuske and Serena scored off an UIS error.
UIS was able to get one back in the third to make it 4-1 but that was its only run of the game.
The Flyers got the run back in the bottom half after
Meghan Bontrager (Milford, IN/Northridge) nearly hit one out for a double which scored
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School) to make it 5-1.
Lewis broke the game open in the bottom of the fourth after scoring five more times.
Powell drove home Graham after a RBI single up the middle. Wuske made it 7-1 after her RBI double scored Powell.
Carrie Anderson (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah Community) ripped a two-run double to right, scoring Wuske and Serena to make it 9-1.
Toni Rodriguez (Chicago, IL/Nazareth Academy) extended it out to 10-1 after her RBI single drove home Anderson.
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) (7-6) recorded the victory on the mound after only giving up one run (unearned), allowing four hits and striking out four only five innings of work.
GAME 2: UIS 6, Lewis 4
UIS jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after scoring a pair of runs in the opening inning.
Graham cut the deficit in half after her hitting her first career home run to make it 2-1.
A couple of innings later, Garden ended up tying the contest at 2-2 after ripped a RBI single which scored Hoffman.
The Prairie Stars responded with three runs in the fourth inning to make it 5-2. Anderson got one back for the Flyers after driving home Serena after a RBI single.
UIS got the run back in the fifth inning to extend its lead out to 6-3. The Flyers looked to rally in the bottom of the sixth after Serena drove home Powell but Lewis stranded two runners on with one our.
Wuske pitched three scoreless frames in the fifth, sixth and seventh inning while only allowing one hit.

Lewis will be back in action Tuesday, April 4 in non conference action as the Flyers travel to Purdue Northwest for a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
