Lewis Baseball Wins Series Against Drury With Victory Sunday

OZARK, Mo. -- The Lewis University baseball team picked up a huge series victory on the road as the Flyers defeated Drury 9-4 at Sky Bacon Stadium Sunday (April 23).

SUMMARY
Drury jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning. 

Tony Fleischauer (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) tied it in the top of the second inning with a solo home run. 

The Panthers regained the lead in the bottom half of the frame with a RBI single to make it 2-1. 

Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) gave the Flyers its first lead of the game after ripping a two-run triple to left which scored Kevin Barry (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) and Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic) to make it 3-2. 

DU tied it at 3-3 in the bottom of the fourth with a sacrifice bunt. 

The following half inning, Lewis tacked on two runs after back-to-back singles from Fleischauer and Cherokee LeBeau (Shorewood, Ill./Minooka) which made it 5-3 Flyers. 

The Panthers were able to get one more tally in the bottom half of the fifth after a Lewis error but that was its final run of the game. 

Headrick extended the Lewis lead out to 6-4 after scoring from third on a wild pitch. 

Lewis added three more runs in the top of the ninth inning after George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) hit a RBI single which scored Fleischauer. Michael Alt (Appleton, Wis./Kimberly) ripped a two-run double down the left field line that scored Bilecki and Ian Nguyen (Anoka, Minn./Coons Rapids)

Matt Piento (Indian Head Park, Ill./Lyons) (2-2) got the win in relief after going 4.1 innings, allowing one hit, giving up one unearned run, walking three and striking out three.

Lewis will be back in action Tuesday, April 25 as the Flyers host Purdue Northwest starting at 3 p.m.
