ROMEOVILLE, Ill. - The Lewis University baseball team defeated Southwest Baptist 10-0 and 10-2 Friday (April 28) in a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader at Brennan Field on senior night.

The Flyers scored three runs in the first inning as
Kevin Barry (Bartlett, Ill./South Elgin) had a RBI single,
Cain Headrick (Custer Park, Ill./Providence Catholic) hit a sacrifice fly and
Tony Fleischauer (Joliet, Ill./Joliet Catholic) had a RBI groundout.
A Barry groundout in the fifth made it a 4-0 Lewis lead. The Flyers pulled away with three more runs in the sixth. A bunt single by
Patrick Keaty (South Elgin, Ill./South Elgin) and a throwing error allowed Fleischauer to score.
Thomas Fox (Norfolk, Va./Norfolk Christian) had a sacrifice fly for the second run, while a fielding error scored the third run.
Lewis finished the scoring in the seventh inning as Keaty doubled down the left field line, scoring two runs. A wild pitch allowed Keaty to score the final run of the contest, ending the game.
Angelo Cantelo (Blue Island, Ill./Marian Catholic), Barry and Keaty and two hits each for the Flyers.
Jake Karaba (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) (6-1) went seven innings, allowing four hits and striking out 11 for the shutout on the mound.
Game 2: Lewis 10, SBU 2
Lewis once again took control early as it scored four times in the second inning.
Chris McDevitt (Chicago, Ill./St. Rita) had a RBI double, Fox had a RBI single and Cantelo had a two-RBI double in the inning.

George Bilecki (Chicago, Ill./Marist) single in the third inning made it 5-0. Southwest Baptist scored its first runs of the day in the fourth inning to make it 5-2.
Lewis came right back with a run in the bottom of the fourth on a sacrifice fly by Headrick to make it 6-2.
The Flyers finished the game off in the sixth as Cantelo hit a solo home run and McDevitt hit a three-run home run.
McDevitt went 3-for-4 with three runs scored and four RBI to lead the offense, while Cantelo (3 RBI) and Bilecki each had two hits.
Anthony Sorrentino (Burr Ridge, Ill./Lyons Township) (2-0) picked up the win, allowing four hits and two earned runs in four innings, striking out five.
UP NEXT
The two teams are scheduled for a 1 p.m. meeting Saturday at Brennan Field. Ed Spiezio's jersey retirement is also scheduled to take place prior to first pitch.
