INDIANAPOLIS -- The Lewis University softball team shutout Illinois-Springfield 3-0 in the NCAA Midwest Regional Thursday (May 11).

SUMMARY
Lewis broke through in the fourth inning after
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) hit a double then a couple of batters later
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) drove her home with a sacrifice fly to make it 1-0.
The Flyers added two insurance runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Sara Serena (Kankakee, IL/Kankakee) ripped a RBI single to left which scored
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) to make it 2-0.
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) drove home Powell after grounding into a fielder's choice to extend the lead to 3-0.
UIS was able to get a back-to-back hits to make it third and second with one out in the seventh. Garden was escape without any damage as the next batter flew into a double play to left and
Gabi Nilles (North Aurora, IL/West Aurora) threw the runner out breaking for the plate.
Garden (17-7) tossed a complete game shutout after only allowing three hits and striking out 11 over seven innings of work.
