INDIANAPOLIS -- The Lewis University softball team avoided elimination by defeating Illinois-Springfield 6-5 after falling to Indianapolis 3-2 in 11 innings earlier in the day.

Indianapolis 3, Lewis 2 (11 innings)
Lewis struck first in the opening inning to make it 1-0.
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) hit a double to left center then scored a couple batters later after
Payton Wuske (Frankfort, IL/Lincoln-Way East) after grounded into a fielder's choice.
Indianapolis tied the contest at 1-1 after a RBI single in the bottom of the fifth.
Wuske gave the Flyers back the lead after her RBI single up the middle made it 2-1.
The Greyhounds were able to tie the score up at 2-2 after a Lewis miscue in the bottom of the sixth.
Both teams were held scoreless for four innings keeping the score tied at 2-2.
Indianapolis walked it off in the bottom of the 11th inning with two outs with a RBI double to left center.

SUMMARY
Lewis 6, UIS 5
Illinois-Springfield opened up the scoring in the first inning after plating a pair of runs to make it 2-0.
Lewis was able to get one back in the bottom of the second after
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) ripped a RBI double down the right field line which made it 2-1 UIS.
The Prairie Stars responded with three runs in the third inning to expand its lead out to 5-1.
The Flyers were able to get one back in the fourth after
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) hit her second home run of the season to cut it down to 5-2.
The next inning in the fifth,
Meghan Bontrager (Milford, IN/Northridge) came through and tied it up with a two-run single which scored
Carrie Anderson (Roscoe, IL/Hononegah Community) and Wuske and then after a UIS miscue it scored
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School).
Moments later, Bontrager scored to give Lewis a 6-5 lead after Frafjord hit a sacrifice fly.
Wuske (6-3) got the win in the relief after going 4.2 innings allowing only three hits and striking out two.

Lewis will be back in action Saturday, May 13 as the Flyers take on Indianapolis starting at 10 a.m. The Flyers need to defeat the Greyhounds twice in order to advance.
