EAST PEORIA, Ill. -- The Lewis softball team won its league best 11th Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament Championship after defeating Maryville in the semifinals then Indianapolis in the championship game Sunday (May 7).

SUMMARY
Indianapolis broke through with a two-run single which gave the Greyhounds a early 2-0 lead.
Lewis got one back in the bottom of the third after
Anna Frafjord (Sussex, WI/Hamilton High School) hit a solo home run to right.
The Flyers had a big fifth inning as Lewis scored four times.
Gabi Nilles (North Aurora, IL/West Aurora) ripped a two-run single up the middle which scored Frafjord and
Meghan Bontrager (Milford, IN/Northridge) to give the Flyers a 3-2 lead.
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School) made it 4-2 after hitting a RBI double down the left field line scoring Nilles from first.
Kristen Graham (Mapleton, IL/Illini Bluffs High School) extended the lead out to 5-2 after driving home Garden on a RBI groundout.
Garden (16-7) picked up the win in the circle after going all seven innings, allowing six hits, giving up two runs and striking out six.

Lewis struck first in the bottom of the second after Bontrager hit a RBI double to left which scored
Erica Hoffman (Hebron, IN/Boone Grove High School).
Jalyn Powell (Tolono, IL/Unity) doubled the Lewis lead in the third inning after she singled home
Delaney Garden (Carpentersville, IL/Harry D. Jacobs High School).
Maryville got one back in the fourth inning to cut the deficit in half which made it 2-1 Flyers.
The Flyers responded with a two-run fifth inning after
Sara Serena (Kankakee, IL/Kankakee) drove home Nilles and Garden with a two-run two out single to left center.
Allie Wondrasek (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West High School) (12-5) picked up the win after allowing four hits, giving up one run, walking two and striking out seven.
