MIDLAND, Mich. – The Lewis University women's soccer team tied, 1-1, with Northwood in both teams' season-opening match Thursday (Aug. 31) at Dean Soccer Field. Morgan Krupp (New Baltimore, Mich./Anchor Bay) scored the lone goal for the Flyers in the contest.

HALF BREAKDOWN
First Half: Northwood 1, Lewis 0
Northwood registered the first shot of the game in the fourth minute, but it was blocked away by Lewis. Vargas earned the first shot on goal in the match for the Flyers at the 11:28 mark but her shot was saved by the Timberwolves' keeper.
Northwood got on the board with a goal by Carly Boyd at the 26:36 mark of the first half. Heading to the locker room, both sides had four shots, with Lewis registering one shot on goal as the Timberwolve recorded two. Lewis' Nielsen and Northwood's Lindsay Jacob each had one save in the first half.
Second Half: Lewis 1, Northwood 0
In the second half, Lewis went straight on the attack with Hadzic registering a shot in the opening minute, but missing high right. The Flyers earned their first two corners of the match in the 52nd and 53rd minutes, respectively, but were unable to score. Nielsen kept the deficit at one goal with saves at the 57:05 and 58:24 marks.
That set up Krupp to tie the game 1-1 with her goal at the 64:36 mark. Lewis stayed on the attack with two shots by Culver in the next two minutes, but neither made it on goal. Vargas came close to putting the Flyers in front at the 87:07 mark, but her shot hit the left post. Vargas then took the final shot of the game at the 88:53 mark and missed high.
Both teams totaled eight shots in the second half, with Lewis registering two on goal and Northwood earning three shots on goal. The Timberwolves were also given three yellow cards in the second half.
