INDIANAPOLIS -- The Lewis women's tennis team traveled to the ITA Regionals Saturday-Monday hosted by University of Indianapolis.
Casey Smith (Portage, Mich./Portage Central) advanced all the way to the round of 16 in Flight A after winning a pair of matches. Smith defeated Lake Superior State's Tayla Brasier in a three-set tiebreaker in the first round, 1-6, 6-2 [10-6].
Smith went on to defeat Aimee Reynoso of Ferris State in the round of 32 in another three-set tiebreaker 3-6, 6-3 [10-8]. The senior eventually fell in the round of 16 to eventual champion from University of Indianapolis Benedetta Sensi 6-1, 6-2.
Sophomore
Benedetta Luccone (Roccagorga, Italy) advanced to the round of 32 in Flight B after defeating Davenport's Hermon Mikel, 7
7-6
1, 6-3. Luccone was eliminated in the round of 32 after losing her match to Grand Valley State's Amanda Diaz in two close sets 7-5, 7-5.
Anabel Aguilar (San Luis Potosi, Mexico/South Carolina State) lost in her matchup in Flight B to Ferris State's Parker Nolan 6-3, 6-2.
Sage Hills (Bloomingdale, Ill./Glenbard North) suffered a setback in her match in Flight B to Walsh's Yasmina Mayer 6-0, 6-2.
In doubles flight A, Smith and
Sofiia Vdovychenko (Kyiv, Ukraine) won their round of 64 matchup against Findlay's Charlie Croteau and Anamarija Kovacevic 7

5. The Lewis duo were eliminated in the round of 32 after losing to Diane Flament and Sensi 6-2.
Hills and Luccone were narrowly defeated in the round of 64 in Flight B to Walsh's Mayer and Carla Padberg 7-5.
Lewis will be back in action for a dual match against St. Francis (Ill.) Saturday, Sept. 23 at Jack Oremus Tennis Complex on Lewis' campus.
