ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University men's basketball team picked up a Great Lakes Valley Conference victory at Neil Carey Arena Saturday (Jan. 20) as the Flyers defeated Missouri-St. Louis 79-68.

SUMMARY
Both teams opened the game with threes then Lewis was able to score 10 straight points including five from Hill which made it 16-5 Lewis early. UMSL looked to get back in the contest after going on a 9-4 run to make it 20-14 in favor of the Flyers.Â
Vanderheydt was able to get the Flyers back on track with a three-pointer extend the lead out to 23-14 with 6:48 left before half. Lewis led 33-23 at the break.
Frericks opened the second half with a three-pointer which sparked a 13-2 run to start the second half which gave Lewis a 46-25 lead. The Flyers led as much as 22 (60-38) with 10:34 to play before the Tritons started mounting a comeback.Â
UMSLÂ scored 13Â unanswered points to get back make it down to single digits (60-51) with 6:39 left in the game. Lewis was able to shake off any further damage by UMSL and built a double-digit lead again after a basket by Renfro.Â
Lewis shot 67% (16-24) from the field in the second half and 86% 6-7 from three which was a big part of the victory.Â
