HALF BREAKDOWN
First Half: Lewis 3, Southwest Baptist 0
At the start of Friday afternoon's game, Lewis immediately went on the offensive side with high pressure offense and strong control of the midfield. A. Gorodnickis and Cznosnyka had two quick shots on goal within the first three minutes. At 3:03, Revell controlled the ball deep in Southwest Baptist's defensive zone and with a clean pass over to A. Gorodnickis, a steady shot across the goal line gave Lewis an early one goal lead.
Lewis kept the pressure on after the goal, even being caught offside early in the contest. The Flyers defense was just as strong in the opening minutes, not allowing the Bearcats to get any offensive momentum by walling off the midfield. At 11:40,
Roman Hernandez (Aurora, Ill./Aurora East) and Revell moved the ball in together, finally serving it out to Perez, who fired a shot into the back of the net for a now two goal lead.
Southern Baptist made a large amount of substitutions and with fresh legs Southwest Baptist slowed the offense down a bit. Lewis had a corner kick at 33:28 which allowed the Flyers to push far into Southern Baptist territory. With the corner coming in and bouncing around, Perez was finally able to get control of the ball enough to pass it off to
Erik Alqvist (Helsingborg, Sweden/Hittarps IK Football Club), who hammered another goal into the back of the net giving Lewis the 3-0 lead.
Second Half: Lewis 0, Southwest Baptist 0
The second half of the match was much more defensive oriented for the Flyers after Southwest Baptist was able to control the ball more in the midfield and their offensive zone. A little over five minutes in, Southwest Baptist was able to get a shot off on net, which Doppelhoffer came over for the save, this was the only shot on goal Lewis allowed the entire match and the only save for Doppelhoffer.
Near the end of the match, Lewis had another burst of offense with shots by
Lance Somerfield (Orland Park, Ill./Eastern Illinois) and Asore which were saved by the Southwest Baptist goalkeeper. The final minutes of the match were a slow crawl to the final buzzer and after 90 minutes of play, Lewis walked away with another GLVC victory in their pocket.
Final Score: Lewis 3, Southwest Baptist 0
