ROMEOVILLE, Ill. -- The Lewis University women's volleyball team responded in a big way Friday (Nov. 1) as the Flyers swept Missouri S&T 3-0 at Neil Carey Arena.

SET BREAKDOWN vs. Missouri S&T
Set 1: Lewis 25, Missouri S&T 17
Both teams each scored five points to begin the contest. Lewis rallied off five straight points including kills from Ray and Stefanski and a pair of blocks from Ray to make it 10-5.
Missouri S&T tried to crawl back into the set after making it 12-9 in favor of Lewis but the Flyers responded with three straight points including kills from
Mallory Januski (Bourbonnais, Ill./Valparaiso) and Ray as well as an ace from Hickey to extend it to 15-9. Lewis kept the momentum and went ahead 19-12 after a kill from Ray.
The Miners made it as close as six (23-17) Lewis but that was the closest they got. The Flyers won the opening set after back-to-back kills from Ray and
Reese Renfrow (Prosper, Texas/Prosper High School).
Set 2: Lewis 25, Missouri S&T 16
Missouri S&T jumped out to an early 2-1 lead in the set. Lewis responded with five straight points including three service aces by Hickey which gave the Flyers an 6-2 advantage.
The Miners tried to start a rally after getting the next point but the Flyers would not give in as Lewis scored another five in a row including a pair of service aces by Kaczorowski to make it 11-3. Missouri S&T bounced back and got back-to-back points and closed in and made it 13-9 in favor of Lewis.
Lewis had the answer with three straight points including kills from
Keegan Carey (Orland Park, Ill./Carl Sandburg) and
Mallory Januski (Bourbonnais, Ill./Valparaiso) and an ace from King which made it 16-9. Missouri S&T scored the ensuing point before Lewis scored four straight again including kills from Hickey, Alvey and Januski to make it 20-10.
The Miners had one last fight in them with three straight points to make it 20-13 in favor of Lewis but Lewis was able to close out the set and win it 25-16.
Set 3: Lewis 25, Missouri S&T 16
Missouri S&T jumped out to another early 2-1 lead but Lewis was right there with the response. Ray recorded a kill then a block to give the Flyers a 5-3 lead then Lewis never gave up the lead nor was it tied the rest of the way.
The closest the Miners got was 9-7 in favor of Lewis then the Flyers scored four in a row including a pair of blocks from Ray to extend the lead to 13-7. Moments later, Lewis made it 19-10 after a kill from Ray.
Missouri S&T tried to crawl back and get back in the set and made it 20-13 in favor of Lewis but it was already too late with the Flyers outscoring the Miners 5-3 the rest of the way. Ther Flyers won the set and the match after back-to-back kills from Alvey and Ray.
