HALF BREAKDOWN
First Half: Lewis 1, UIndy 1
After a match up that was decided in the final minutes of play the last time these two teams met, both squads started the match with a level of intensity, as if their last meeting never ended. The Greyhounds began with the ball and pushed it deep into the heart of the Flyers defensive half and they walked away with the first shot of the game.
Lewis flipped the momentum and spent a strong portion of the first half in their offensive zone. Persistence finally paid off for the Flyers as a perfect lead pass from Stampley to the foot of Asore, created enough time for Asore to put one past the UINDY goalie, for a Flyers 1-0 lead.
An explosion of excitement erupted across the field and bench for the Flyers after the goal and they carried that energy through the rest of the half. Lewis continued to maintain possession for the next few minutes until an error by Sebastian Doppelhoffer created a Penalty Kick for the Greyhounds, which they converted into a goal.
With the game now tied, the energy began to shift in the favor of UIndy. Lewis tried to give a final push before halftime to carry some energy into the second half, but at the buzzer the game was tied and both teams headed to their respective corners.
Second Half: Lewis 2, UIndy 1
Lewis came out of break with the same vigor and determination they started the match with. The Flyers found their footing and spent the start of the second half in their offensive zone.
Mohammed Sanyang (London, England/Heartland CC) subbed into the game and provided a spark of energy on the left side of the pitch. Lewis fought for the ball in the corner which resulted in them gaining a corner kick.
With Revell on the kick, Lewis ran their signature corner offense, and with a header from Gorodnickis, the Flyers went up 2-1.
With a sizable amount of time left on the clock, Lewis attempted to find the balance between offense and protecting the lead on defense. Lewis wasted as much time as they could off of free kicks, throw ins and corner kicks.
Eventually the officials forced Lewis to play with more speed, to which they used that speed to keep the ball in their hands. Eventually enough time ran off the clock for Lewis to claim another victory over the Greyhounds and claim a seat in the GLVC Tournament Final.
Final Score: Lewis 2, UIndy 1
