#18 Lewis Men's Lacrosse Falls to (RV) Maryville in Season Opener Saturday

ST. LOUIS, Mo. -- The No. 18 Lewis University men's lacrosse team suffered a setback in its season opener against (RV) Maryville, 13-5, Saturday (Feb. 10).

GAME SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: Maryville 3, Lewis 0
Maryville scored the only three goals of the quarter and kept Lewis off the scoreboard. The Flyers recorded eight shot attempts in the opening frame with four being saved by the Saints' goalie. 

SECOND QUARTER: Maryville 5, Lewis 1
Michael Metheny (Fishers, Indiana/Hamilton Southeastern HS) was able to enter the scoreboard for the Flyers off the assist from McLean to make it 3-1 Maryville. The Saints then closed out the first half with five  unanswered goals to lead 8-1 at the break.

Lewis recorded 10 more shots in the quarter with three being on target but none found the back of the net as the Saints saved them. Rathe recorded three saves in the second quarter to keep it at 8-1.

THIRD QUARTER: Maryville 1, Lewis 1
Dylan Kendrick (Chanhassen, Minnesota/Chanhassen HS) opened up the scoring for the Flyers in the second half to cut it down to 8-2. Maryville responded with a goal of its own to extend the lead back out to 9-2. 

Lewis recorded nine more shots in the third quarter with Maryville recording 11. Rathe recorded eight more saves to add to his total on the day. 

Kevin Blaz (McHenry, Illinois/Marian Central Catholic HS) and McLean recorded a pair of shots on goal but Maryville saved all four of them. 

FOURTH QUARTER: Maryville 4, Lewis 3
Maryville scored the first goals of the fourth quarter which gave the Saints an 11-2 lead. Clement was able to cut the deficit down to eight with the goal off the assist from Malikye Good (Windsor, Ontario, Canada/St. Thomas of Villanova Catholic HS).

Good made it 11-4 with the next goal with 7:36 to play in the contest off the assist from McLean. Maryville responded with a goal of its own to make it 12-4 at the 5:27 mark in the game. 

Dalep was able to find Trevor Collier (Millersville, Maryland/Old Mill HS / Anne Arundel Community College) for the goal to cut it down to 12-5 Maryville. The Saints scored the final goal of the game with 2:53 remaining which put MU ahead 13-5.

Rathe recorded four more saves in the period while Lewis recorded four more shots.

FINAL SCORE: Maryville 13, Lewis 5
