MARQUETTE, Mich. -- The Lewis University women's lacrosse team started its 2024 season on the road with a 14-11 setback against Northern Michigan Friday (Feb. 16).

GAME SUMMARY
FIRST QUARTER: Lewis 4, Northern Michigan 2
Northern Michigan started the game with the first two goals of the contest in the first six minutes of the match. Lewis was able to respond with four unanswered.
Bowen recorded the first goal on a free-position shot to make it 2-1. Davidson was able to find
Heidi Sweeney (New Westminster, British Columbia, Canada/New Westminster) for the goal to tie the contest at two all with 5:30 left in the first quarter.
Serritella gave Lewis a 3-2 lead after recording a free-position shot with 2:24 remaining. Bowen picked up her second goal of the contest with 1:43 on the clock in the first to give the Flyers a 4-2 lead.
SECOND QUARTER: Northern Michigan 3, Lewis 1
Bowen started the second quarter with her third goal of the match with a free-position shot a minute into the period to extend Lewis' lead out to 5-2. Northern Michigan responded with three unanswered to tie it at 5-5.
Lewis recorded five more shots in the period but was unable to find the back of the net. Templeton was able to record a pair of saves which kept the score tied at 5-5.
THIRD QUARTER: Northern Michigan 8, Lewis 1
Davidson gave Lewis a 6-5 lead after the pass from Winterlik a minute into the second half. Northern Michigan came out on firing the rest of the way after the Wildcats scored eight unanswered.
The Flyers recorded a pair of shots the rest of the third but neither found the back of the net. Templeton recorded three saves in the period.
FOURTH QUARTER: Lewis 5, Northern Michigan 1
Northern Michigan started the scoring in the fourth quarter with a goal to make it 14-6. Lewis responded with five unanswered goals but it was not enough as NMU won 14-11.
Bowen recorded her fourth goal of the match which made it 14-7 in favor of the Wildcats. Bowen recorded her second straight goal, this time a free-position shot, to make it 14-8 with 8:35 to play in the contest.
Winterlik recorded her first goal of the season with 2:40 remaining in the game which made it 14-9. Bowen was able to assist on the next goal as the senior found
Sydney Able (Aurora, Colo./Regis Jesuit) with 1:41 left.
Serritella picked up her second goal of the year, scoring with 1:14 lwft as the Flyers had the advantage. Templeton recorded two more saves to bring her total to 11.
FINAL SCORE: Northern Michigan 14, Lewis 11
